The « portal » connecting Vilnius with other cities in the Town Hall Square
The sculpture was moved to the new location from access to the capital’s railway station.
“Vilnius has always been open to the world – this is also evidenced by our history. By moving the Portal to Town Hall Square, we not only open the heart of the city for meetings, but also strengthen public spaces as places for connection and communion. I hope people here will not only stop, but also meet – even if only on the screen, ”said Valdas Benkunskas, Mayor of Vilnius.
Erika Kuročkina, the elder of the Freedom faction of the Vilnius City Municipality Council, emphasized that such projects reflect the identity of Vilnius.
“Vilnius is increasingly becoming a city that not only follows the ideas of the world, but also creates them. The Portal is exactly the case: the idea born here and raised to the global network. His transfer to the Town Hall Square is a clear step towards an open, cosmopolitan city that is not afraid to be brave, visible and inspiring, ”she said.

According to the municipality, at the time of the unveiling of the sculpture, Vilnius residents and guests of the city were greeted by the appearance of the Underground dance group, symbolically embodying its idea: « Open, living and modern city. »
Currently, « portal » sculptures are located in five cities around the world – Vilnius, Lublin, Philadelphia, Dublin and Paėji in Brazil.
Vilnius is increasingly becoming a city that not only follows the ideas of the world, but also creates them itself.
The organization, which develops these installations, is currently building three more sculptures, which will soon be connected to the network to three new states from different continents.
The team’s initiators also actively work on the construction of a new sculpture in Ukraine.
BNS wrote that the first « portals » were built in 2021 and first united Vilnius and Lublin.
