The Pope passed away from them just two meters

On the morning of April 20, on the first day of Easter, Mayor of Palanga Šarūnas Vaitkus and his wife Vilma and three children-Domantas, Gabija and Eve-stood at St. In Peter’s Square, where there were special moments waiting for almost seven hours. About 35,000 people from all over the world participated in the Mass – united by faith, hope and St. Easter joy.

« Yes, from early morning we waited for St. Peter’s Square Mass, along with nearly 35,000 pilgrims from around the world. We prayed for Palanga. Vaitkus with Palanga Bridge.

Their wait was rewarded: Pope Francis himself passed in just two meters from them, raising his hand for blessing.

But on that evening, when the family returned to the hotel, the mayor said, saying, « This is apparently the last time, the children, when we see the Pope … We saw it in Kaunas in 2018 and now the Vatican. »

Tomorrow, April 21, brought the painful message-the life of Pope Francis was extinguished.

« What a fragile life … Yesterday, the last time in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican, we had to see Pope Francis, from whom we all got the last blessing, and this morning he had already traveled to the Kingdom of Heaven, » Vaitkus said sensitively.

Pope Francis was not only the leader of the Catholic Church – he was a bridge between the world and faith, a beacon who showed the way to compassion, peace and hope. His words and actions witnessed selfless love for man, and his life became a testimony that even the greatest crowd could be close to everyone.

« The moments when the joy and eternity of Easter is just a few hours. Moments we will never forget … Rest in peace, the Holy Father, » said Palanga Mayor.
