The pollution wave from Praid passes the border. The Hungarian side, notified

The Minister of the Environment, Mircea Fechet, announced that the pollution wave from Salina Praid has already arrived in Blaj, follows Alba Iulia, and on Sunday he will reach Nădlac, at the exit of the country of Mures.

Mircea Fechet has already notified the Hungarian part, because the environmental impact will exceed the Romanian border:

“I returned today, again, in Praid to make sure that the intervention teams have the situation under control after, in the last days, there were worrying signals in relation to the stability of the perimeter from the old mine. Everything culminated with the massive pollution episode on the Corund stream and downstream.

Things are now in the evolution anticipated by experts, the craters have expanded, some of them joined, and the ceiling collapsed on large portions. Deep cracks appeared on both the technological road and in the forested areas nearby.

Under these conditions, all the efforts that are made are to reduce the pressure on the underground structure, holding any drop of water as far from the interior, and to safely put the entire community in Praid.

Four high capacity motor pumps and two small capacity have been installed and operate in optimal parameters. Of these, two were mounted by the representatives of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) and with their help are about 80% of the current flow of the Corund stream, in the most affected area. Another motorcycle was installed today by the colleagues from the Romanian Waters (ANAR), and three ensures the deviation of the Ocna watercourse into the Corund stream.

We diminish, through these interventions, not only the risk of mine collapse, but also the risk of pollution with chlorides on the corund and downstream.

The mobilization for stopping the infiltration and the deviation of the Corund stream remains essential in the corrugated pipes, through the bypass on which the builder contracted by Salrom works ”.
