The political suicide of the government and the PSD
After some elections that generated a very small majority, the XXIV Constitutional Government was received with a favorable expectation, and it was expected to present reformist policies that would end the disaster that would constitute the policies of António Costa’s socialist governments for eight long years.
Unfortunately, however, that is not what happened. The government of Montenegro was absolutely unable to make any background reform, and there was a clear continuity of policies in relation to the previous government, especially in areas where it was essential to change everything, as with housing.
Nevertheless, the XXIV Constitutional Government benefited from a positive image in public opinion, so nothing would wait for its resignation, let alone the dissolution of parliament, especially since from September the President of the Republic would lose this faculty. They only occurred due to a true political suicide of the government, which did not hesitate to involve all ministers in a private case of the Prime Minister.
Indeed, as much as it will be widespread the case of the Spinumviva company, it respects only Luís Montenegro himself, so it should have been dealt with exclusively by him, especially more than his communications about it were always of purely personal content.
In no case was it justified a communication to the prime minister’s country on this issue, and even less that in this communication were present all ministers, when the subject manifestly concerned them.
And it is also a real absurdity for the government to present a motion of trust in Parliament, under the pretext that the PS had been announced by a case inquiry into the case, which only focused on the exclusivity of the prime minister, and that therefore it should have been totally undervalued by the government, because it had just survived two censorship motions.
The presentation of the confidence motion, which was already known beforehand to be rejected, was therefore a true government political suicide, who decided to march behind the Prime Minister towards the abyss, at the same time throwing the country to totally useless elections and will probably leave it all.
And there is the inquiry committee itself, since if Montenegro was uncomfortable with it, it is not seen how this situation will improve after the elections. This is a personal situation, it would be better to have Montenegro resigned rather than a motion of trust, in which case the PSD could easily have arranged another prime minister, thus sparing the country to these useless elections.
But the PSD also decided to commit suicide, also accompanying Montenegro towards the abyss. This is how the PSD will get involved in an attempted reelection of Montenegro, going to an election campaign, where Spinumviva will be a true living thorn nailed to the party throughout the campaign. And that it will never be torn, even in the event of an electoral victory, since the inquiry committee will inexorably emerge if Montenegro is a prime minister again.
In the Book of Psalms (42: 7) is the expression ABYSSUS ABYSSUM INVOCAT, that is, that an abyss calls another abyss. Therefore all measures should have been taken so that a personal situation of the Prime Minister would not become a drama for the government, parliament and the country.
If for this, it was necessary to replace the prime minister, it should even have been to make this decision for the regularity of the operation of the institutions. Too bad there was no one in the PSD that can recognize what is politically obvious.
