The pirate thrones on top
Sigurbjörg Erla Egilsdóttir, mayor of Pirate in Kopavogur, had ISK 16,852,320 in salary last year for a seat on the town council, councils and committees. She is therefore the highest -paid town representative for Kopavogur.
This is stated in the minutes from the last meeting of the Kópavogur municipal council.
Orri Vignir Hlöðversson, chairman of the municipal council, submitted the inquiry following discussions on the purchase and terms of town councilors in connection with the majority’s optimization measures.
« In that discussion, there was a lot of discussion about the purchase and terms of the mayor, the town’s senior executives and town councilors, » says Orri in a conversation with Morgunblaðið, but part of the town’s optimization operation was to reduce the salary of the town by 10%.
The second highest -paid town councilor is Hjördís Jr Johnson with just over ISK 16.1 million in salary last year and Orri had just over 16 million in annual salary as a town councilor last year.
The average salary for the townspeople was high to ISK 11 million a year.
The highest -paid town councilor was Ásdís Kristjánsdóttir with two and a half million last year, but she has an employment contract with Kopavogur town as mayor.
The wages depend on how many committees and councils are in town. Asked if it surprises him that a minority town councilor has the highest salary, he says:
« It is only related to the fact that it sits in all our main councils; the Planning Council, the Welfare Council and the Education Council, as well as being a town representative and an observer in the town council.
