Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski said on Saturday that he is expecting « results » after the « symbolic meeting » with his American counterpart Donald Trump before Pope Francis funeral, AFP reports.
« A good meeting. We discussed a lot face to face. I hope we will achieve results about all the points addressed, » Zelenski said, stressing that he wants a « cessation of total and unconditional fire » in Ukraine.
« A very symbolic meeting that could become historical if we reach common results, » added the leader from Kiev.
AFP said that the leader from the White House left Rome shortly after the funeral of Pope Francis.
According to the DPA, the Zelenski-Trump meeting lasted 15 minutes and took place in Saint Peter’s Basil.
An image broadcast by the press shows the two presidents sitting on the chairs in front of each other, this being their first meeting in person after the historical meeting in February in the Oval Office.
Zelenski, who arrived on Saturday in Rome and attended Pope Francis’s funerals, has been meeting with Donald Trump for a short time, announces the Ukrainian presidency, a few hours after the white house resident announced that Kiev and Moscow are « very close to an agreement, » AFP reports.
« The meeting took place and is already over, » a journalists told a journalists of the Ukrainian president, Serghii Nîkiforov.

The White House confirmed
US presidents Donald Trump and Ukrainian Volodimir Zelenski had a « very productive » meeting in the margin of Pope Francis, on Saturday, in Rome, later confirmed the White House.

According to the Italian press agency ANSA, Zelenski and Trump would meet again after the pope’s funeral.
Donald Trump, who arrived in the Italian capital on Friday evening, immediately said that Kiev and Moscow, who launched the invasion of Ukraine over three years ago and occupy 20% of the Ukrainian territory, are « very close to an agreement. »
The US president gave assurances in an interview broadcast on Friday evening that Russia will keep Crimea, an Ukrainian peninsula that he annexed in 2014.
However, despite his pressure, Volodimir Zelenski reaffirmed on Friday that Crimea belongs to Kiev.
Volodimir Zelenski arrived in Rome on Saturday to participate in Pope Francis’s funerals, his spokesman said, France Presse reports.
« Volodimir Zelenski, the first Mrs. Olena Zelenska (…) will take part in the ceremony, » said the spokesman Sergei Nikiforov.
On Friday night, Zelenski said that it is no longer sure that he will « have time » to travel to Rome and, possibly, to see the US president, who will also participate in the funeral.
