The perpetrator of triple murder did not belong to the residential care center, but mayor « was not informed by any instance » (Dentergem)

Dentergem was startled at the end of February by three shocking murders in the well -known residential care center Mariaburcht. A resident attacked three roommates in the night from Thursday 27 to Friday 28 February. A 97-year-old and 93-year-old man were killed by violence. The third victim, a 94-year-old woman, succumbed to her injuries a day later.

The identity of the murderer became known around noon. It turned out to be Aloïs Deleersnyder (90), the man who killed his 87-year-old wife in 2021. Aloïs would have hit Mariette C. with a hammer. It never came to a criminal proceedings for the murder of his wife, since experts ruled that he is no longer in his mind. His state of mind has been declining sharply for years.

Internment

At the end of last year, the council chamber ruled that Deleersnyder should be interned because of its dementia. Nevertheless, he spent in recent months in the retirement home in Dentergem. It still raises many questions. The triple murder also sizzled on the city council.

« That man actually belonged at home in a forensic psychiatric center, » said opposition councilor Joke Vandemaele (Focus8720). « We wonder if the mayor, as the head of the police, was actually aware of the accommodation of a person with an internal profile? And there was a commitment between the police zone and the residential care center in connection with the safety of employees and residents? »

Risk analysis?

Was a risk analysis made? The councilor wanted to know that. « And how is it that the Chamber for the Protection of Society (KBM) has to take so long to internal a person with such a profile? Is the mayor informed about this? We regret that the safety of our community was put to the test. »

« As a mayor, I was not informed of any instance of his presence in the residential care center, » responded Mayor Koenraad Degroote (Eendracht). « Since it is about a very shocking event, I want to observe all serenity and I propose to answer the questions with the management of Mariaburcht. She invites the city council next week to discuss the problem. »
