The performance of 2401 at the Liepaja Theater with Girts Krumini’s main role / day

The show tells the story of a real-life person, Henry Moleison (1926-2008), who has also entered History as a patient HM. From an early youth, Henry suffered from severe epileptic seizures, which intensified over time.1953. In order to improve the patient’s quality of life, he underwent experimental brain surgery. After surgery, the patient’s HM attack disappeared, but with them his memories of the previous two years and the opportunity to build new ones. In the scientists’ circles, HM and his illness -related studies are carefully documented, one of the most described cases of amnesia in neuroscience history.

The work does not answer, but asks many questions about the importance of memory, how it creates who we are and who wants to be, humanity and what matters to decide on how the other will be better, medical development and the innate human instinct after progress.

« A man makes the world from thoughts. The way we see things depends on our thinking. Through this story is the easiest access to the thinking process. I was attracted to the question – what’s left if a person loses memories? Understanding how we can use this gift that is our brain, we can live better. The language, along with this story, gives the next level, because in the theater we just do it as we change prospective, ”asked the director.

The actors – Ģirts Krūmiņš, Karīna Tatarinova and Kārlis Artjevs participate in the show, each with several roles.

The material is very difficult, of course, there are collisions in the rehearsal process, but it also has beauty, I have huge respect for these artists. Together with the director, artist Dace Ignatova, light and video artist Dainar Albuzis is working on the production, and the sound design is made up of Milda Ziemane. The play was translated from English by Laila Burane.

The theater recalls that this season has a new tradition to hold a meeting with the creators of the show after the second premiere of each new production. Such is planned this time on May 10th. Without these two performances, you can watch the production this season only on May 18th. It will then return to the stage in the fall.
