The only hospital in Gaza that treated cardiac and oncological disorders, attacked
The only hospital in Gaza to treat heart and oncological disorders has ceased to work after an Israeli attack, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Thursday, AFP reports.
The general director of WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said on the X platform that the European Hospital in Khan Younis is « badly damaged and inaccessible » following Tuesday’s attack.
« It is no longer functional, » he said, adding that a WHO team evacuated the emergency medical staff that was on the spot during the attack.
The Director of the WHO said that « the hospital closure has interrupted vital services, especially neurosurgery, heart care and cancer treatment, which are not available elsewhere in the Gaza strip. »
« This closure also ends the role of the center unit for medical evacuations, which puts even more pressure on a health system already overwhelmed, » added the WHO director.
Doctors without borders (MSF) also warned the consequences that the hospital in Gaza will have.
