The old headquarters advertised for sale
Landsbankinn has advertised the old headquarters of the bank in Austurstræti and Hafnarstræti for sale. The total size of the houses is almost 6,000 square meters with a basement and the houses will be sold in one.
These are the houses Austurstræti 11 and Hafnarstræti 10, 12 and 14. Their total size is 5,836 square meters, of which 1,380 square meters are in the basement.
East Street 11 was originally erected in 1898, but rebuilt and expanded in 1924 following the drawings of Guðjón Samúelsson, but he also drew all the interiors. An extension to the house was then commissioned in 1940. The house was protected in 1991 and reaches the protection to the exterior of the building, wall artwork and interiors that were made in 1924.
Among other things, the house includes French by Jóhannes S. Kjarval and Jón Stefánsson. This is by Jón in the big hall on the ground floor and makes agriculture that time. When you go to the upper floor you will find the fresh by John Kjarval, but it refers to the fishing industry.
Hafnarstræti 10-12 was previously called the Edinburgh House and was built in 1923 according to Einar Erlendsson’s drawings. It was originally three floors, but the fourth floor was later added on top. Hafnarstræti 14, however, was erected in 1970 and is linked to the ground floor there at the front desk in Austurstræti 11, where the aforementioned Fresh Jón is.
The bank’s announcement states that the Icelandic state originally expressed its interest in buying Austurstræti 11, but it is now clear that the acquisition will not be made. Therefore, the property as a whole is advertised for sale.
In 2023, the Bank moved its operations from a total of 12 houses on Austurstræti, Hafnarstræti and Tryggvagata to the bank’s new house at Reykjastræti 6.
The bank requests bids, but the estimated price is not stated.
