The number of students at the Faculty of Civil Engineering increases, Dean Markovski expects the trend to continue
At the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Skopje this afternoon, diplomas of students who graduated and mastered in this academic year were solemnly awarded. Earlier, the UKIM Rectorate was honored with the title of honorary professor (Professor Honoris Causa) Dr. Peter Mark from the RURC University of Bochum, Germany, who is also a professor of the third cycle (doctoral) studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
UKIM said the recognition was a sign of its exceptional scientific and academic achievements, as well as for long -standing support and cooperation in the field of engineering and technology.
« It is our pride and form for greater collaboration between our and the University of Bochum, where many of our young assistants and associates do doctorate and explore with their German colleagues, » Goran Markovski said -Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
According to him, everyone must pledge to increase young people’s interest in engineering professionals, especially for construction.
-Because without a domestic construction state it is difficult or impossible to function. We are witnessing numerous projects implemented in the country and that we already have outdated facilities that require maintenance, repair, renovation, etc. And all this requires engineers. Both the appeals and our efforts to attract as many young people to find their professional future in this profession – said Markovski.
As he said, after a serious decline in interest in previous years, last school year had an increased number of enrolled students.
-I hope that trend will continue, though we are still far from what the state needs. We must return this profession to the place where it belongs … I hope the number will increase and we will be able to be peaceful for the coming period that we will have enough of our construction engineers. I also urge to stay here to study and contribute to their state because it is only at home – Markovski said.
UKIM Rector Biljana Angelova said the Rectorate and the MoES support these commitments because, he said, more and more staff are needed.
« The government has launched several projects in which how these staff can be found, find their place on the local market in the Republic of Macedonia and make their real contribution, » the rector said.
He pointed out that the University of Skopje is a special and solemn day today and because previously the title of Honorary Professor of prof. Peter Mark of the Bochum Faculty of Civil Engineering, which, said, is a great supporter of our university and our Faculty of Civil Engineering.
-A few of our staff from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, where they completed their doctoral studies, were educated at the University of Bochum and mentoring several more students. With prof. Mark The Faculty of Civil Engineering has been cooperating in the field of research and in the field of higher education. He is also a professor in the third cycle of studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and that is why today he received this honorary title Professor Honoris Causa at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, thus becoming a member of our academic community and is a great honor for us – Angelova said.

Peter Mark said UKIM was enriched with another expert as an honorary doctor. On the promotion of graduates and master’s degree students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, he noted that it is important for two reasons.
-First, because the Faculty of Civil Engineering is well established in our society, which produces extremely professional staff and, secondly, during a period of construction expansion when the Government undertakes infrastructure projects in the municipalities, when it concludes a historical and strategic agreement with the UK government, these students and postgraduates can find their place in the UK, Knowledge – said Janevska with wishes to create quality staff in the future.
Minister Janevska will also address a solemn graduation ceremony at the International Balkan University and at a gathering of alumni with graduates from past years.
