The number of newborns registered in Latvia has decreased by 14.8% / day in two months

Including in the first two months of 2025 among the registered newborns 920 were boys, which is 14.1%, or 151 less than in the corresponding period of 2024, but 851 was a girl who is 15.6% or 157.

In February, 890 newborns were registered in Latvia, which is 13.5% or 139 less than in the corresponding month of 2024, including 458 boys and 432 girls.

As a result, the number of newborns registered in Latvia is less than a thousand for the fifth consecutive month. In October 2024, 994 newborns were registered, 940 in November, 921 in December, and in January this year – 881.

In the first two months of this year, 4533 dead were registered in Latvia, which is 10.3% or 519 less than in the first two months of 2024, when 5052 dead were registered.

As a result, the number of deaths registered in the first two months of this year exceeded the number of births, while the number of deaths in the corresponding period of the previous year exceeded the number of births.

In the first two months of 2025, 933 marriages were registered in Latvia, which is 38.4% or 259 more marriages compared to the corresponding period of 2024.

On March 1 this year, the preliminary population in Latvia was 1,849 million.
