The number of newborns registered in Latvia decreased by 12.6% / day in the first quarter

Including in the first three months of 2025 among the newborns were registered in 1423, there were boys, which is 10.4% or 165 less than in the corresponding period of 2024, while 1333 were girls, which is a reduction of 14.9% or 233.

In March, 985 newborns were registered in Latvia, which is 8.4% or 90 less than in the corresponding month of 2024, including 503 boys and 482 girls.

In March, more babies were born in Latvia than in January this year and more than in February this year, but the number of newborns registered for the sixth consecutive month is less than a thousand. 994 newborns were registered in October 2024, 940 in November, 921 in December, 881 in January this year and 890 in February.

In the first three months of this year, 6,870 dead were registered in Latvia, which is 6.9% or 513 less than in the first three months of 2024, when 7,383 dead were registered.

As a result, the number of deaths registered in the first quarter of this year exceeded the number of births, while the number of deaths of the dead in the corresponding period of the previous year exceeded the number of births.

In the first three months of 2025, 1417 marriages were registered in Latvia, which is 31.9% or 343 more marriages compared to the corresponding period of 2024.

The Statistical Bureau states that this year the number of marriages registered in each month was higher than in the relevant month of 2024. 466 marriages were concluded in January, an increase of 55.3% or 166 more than in January last year, 467 marriages in February, which is 24.9% or 93 more, but in March 484 marriages, which is 21% or 84 more.

On April 1 this year, the preliminary population in Latvia was 1,847 million.
