Among them, 52 global satellite navigation system disorders were recorded in March this year, which is twice as much as in March last year, when the disorder was recorded 103 times.

In total, 820 global satellite navigation system disorders were recorded in 2024, 342 cases in 2023 and 26 cases in 2022.

LGS noted earlier that collecting this data does not separate information on specific airlines.

The company also reported that the disorder began along with the Russian invasion of Ukraine and apparently related to it.

The Civil Aviation Agency (CAA) previously explained to LETA that CAA is considering and analyzing reports on the global positioning system (GPS) signal disruption in Latvian airspace. Although they affect normal civil aviation processes, GPS signal disorders do not pose a risk to aircraft safety, both in transit, to and from Latvian flying aircraft.

CAA emphasizes that several systems are used to ensure flight safety, so GPS interference does not affect flight safety. Each case of a GPS disorder is centrally collected and analyzed by the European Aviation Safety Agency.

LGS is a 100% state -owned company and is required to provide airspace users with aeronautical services.

The aim of the CAA, on the other hand, is to implement national policy and administration in the field of use of Latvian airspace and civil aviation through the safety of civil aviation aircraft flight safety and the safety of civil aviation safety, as well as monitoring the compliance of aircraft pollution with environmental protection requirements.
