The number / day of first -time blood donors increased significantly in March

Compared to March last year, this month’s first -time donors have increased by 58%, reaching 1070 blood donors.

According to VADC director Egita Pole, the « Fill the Flag » campaign has managed to reach the younger audience. In March, the average age of donors has fallen by two years of age, reaching the age of 32.

It has already been reported that less than 4% of the Latvian population regularly donates blood.

By donating blood, each donor can help three people. Because the blood is indispensable, the fate of patients is directly dependent on donor responsiveness, VADC points out.

The Center emphasizes that it is not true that only a completely healthy person can become a donor. In order to take care of the safety of blood recipients, the VADC has developed a list of reasons that cannot become a donor. These include various infections and autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular hospitality, acute inflammation and other diagnoses, but many people with mild illness can still donate blood.

As the VADC explains, donating blood to a particular person, the patient will really receive the necessary help, but not necessarily donated by the particular donor. Each donor makes a supplement of blood collection, thus ensuring that anyone who needs it will be available for help. Therefore, regular donation is also important for the blood bank to be full when needed.

The reasons for denying blood donation are different and many of them are temporary. For example, donation is sometimes refused due to lower hemoglobin. In this case, you can sit back in the donor chair after replenishing the iron stocks. However, if the refusal is received due to inappropriate veins, then it is worth trying to schedule a VADC visit on a warm day when the veins become wider and better visible.

Blood on weekdays can be permanently donated to Brivibas Boulevard 32 and Hippocrates Street 2, as well as at Liepaja Hospital – by prior appointment, calling 26557743. Donors are also waiting at VADC Latgale branch – 18 November Street 41, Rezekne Hospital, and Regional Hospital. Every week, VADC also goes on regular trips, providing specialized blood donation sites.

According to the Labor Law, the donor is entitled to a paid rest day after donating blood, and may be granted at another time by agreement with the employer. The employer pays up to five such days in the calendar year.

In order to donate blood, you must be with a valid identity document or any other person identifying a person containing the following information: personal identification code, name and photo.
