The new Pope Leon XIV criticized on Trump and Vance

The new Pope Leon XIV, the first American in charge of the Catholic Church, once challenged Donald Trump and JD Vance about their treatment for migrants.

Pope Leon XIV, born Robert Prevost, has used social networks in recent years to express their concern about how migrants and refugees were treated during Trump’s term.

Before being elected Pope, he distributed several X posts aimed at approaching the Trump administration towards immigration, including the controversial policy of separating families on the US border. In a post that Pope Leon XIV redistributed, the original author wrote: « There is nothing Christian, American or morally justifiable in a policy that takes the children away from their parents and deposits them in the cages. This takes place on our behalf and the shame is on us, of all. »
Another post criticized the deportation of an American resident who was once without acts, asking: « Do you not see the suffering? Isn’t your awareness disturbed? How can you keep silence? »

The new Pope also published an opinion article in the National Catholic Reporter earlier this year that challenged the comments made by US Vice President JD Vance.

The article was entitled « Jd Vance wrong: Jesus does not ask us to evaluate our love for others », in response to the remarks made by Vance during a Fox News.

Despite the critics of the past, Donald Trump has greeted the appointment of Pope Leon XIV by a message posted on Social Truth.

« Cardinals of Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who was just called Pope. It is a great honor to realize that he is the first American Pope, » Trump wrote.

He added: « What emotion and great honor for our country. I look forward to meeting Pope Leon XIV. It will be a very significant moment! »

Pope Leon is originally from Chicago. However, the 69-year-old man spent much of his life working abroad, especially in Peru, where he served as a missionary before being appointed Archbishop of Chiclayo in 2014. Later, he became a Peruvian citizen.
