The new Pope becomes US Cardinal Robert Prevost / Day
The 69 -year -old Prevost, mistaken for the Pope of the 267th Catholic Church, accepted the name Leon XIV.
Born in Chicago, Prevost is the first Pope from the US.
He is a leader with a global experience, spent much of his career as a missionary in South America and, very recently, led the influential Vatican Bishop’s appointment office. He is expected to continue the Pope Francis reforms.
For ten years, he worked for Truhiljo, Peru, and was later appointed bishops in Chiclayo, in another city of Peru, where he served from 2014 to 2023.
In an interview with Vatican News shortly after he became the leader of the bishop’s dicastics, Prevost said: « I still consider myself a missionary. My call, like every Christian’s call, is to be a missionary to preach the gospel wherever the man is. »
The young Pope, who has to enter the second Easter, was elected to the second day of the Conclude, where 133 cardinals voted for the new Pope. The Pope’s election required a two -thirds majority.
