The new deontological code of dentists has been approved
The College of Dental Physicians in Romania (CMSR) approved the new deontological code of the professionals in the field, making an update in accordance with the regulations regarding free competition.
According to a statement of the CMSR transmitted, the new code was sent to the Competition Council for analysis, and it will enter into force on July 1.
In the following period, CMSR will also develop a guide for implementing the regulations of the deontological code, in order to facilitate the correct understanding and application of the new rules by the dentists.
‘This approach marks an important step in the modernization and adaptation of the deontological framework to the current medical requirements and in accordance with the national and European regulations. The changes made to the deontological code reflect an extensive process of consulting and debating with dentists from all over the country, as well as with the representatives of the regulatory authorities, including the Competition Council ‘, the statement said.
The new code introduces provisions regarding the regulation of advertising in the dental field, transparency in the doctor-patient relationship and strengthening the prestige of the profession.
‘Advertising is allowed, but under the conditions of respecting ethical principles and in the spirit of protecting the patient’s interest. Thus, aggressive practices are discouraged and the correct and responsible information is promoted. (…) The new code clearly stipulates the doctor’s obligation to provide patients with all the necessary information regarding the associated treatments and costs. (…) The principles that emphasize that the reputation of the dentist must be based on professional competence, honesty and integrity ‘, the source quoted.
The president of the CMSR, Florin Lăzărescu, claimed that the organization ‘remains dedicated to promoting high standards of professionalism and integrity, thus protecting both patients and dentists’.
‘We wanted a deontological code that would protect both the interests of the patients and the prestige of the dentist profession. The new code clarifies the norms on advertising in dentistry, so that patients receive correct and complete information, without exaggerated messages or that could mislead. In addition, we have strengthened the principles of transparency in the doctor-patient relationship, so that patients are correctly informed about the proposed treatments and associated costs. These measures strengthen confidence in the profession and provide a medical practice based on honesty and respect for fundamental values of public health, « said Dr. Florin Lăzărescu, quoted in the statement.
