The new decision Telia can force scammers to pay instead of you
Telia took an important step in the fight against fraudulent calls, activating the solution that recognizes them on its network. The new solution can more effectively prevent spam and calls of the Wangiri type from foreign numbers that are massively used to deceive people. In addition, this decision will soon be able to force scammers to pay for their actions.
The new solution identifies and blocks fraudulent calls from abroad to Estonia more efficiently and quickly than the previous ones, which is especially important to prevent damage from fraudulent calls.
According to the head of the Telia compounds, Evelyn Nerrot, the new system will speed up the operation of restrictions for fraudulent calls for up to 30 minutes, which means that there will be much less malicious calls to customers.
“The new decision blocks the return calls to the numbers of scammers, preventing potential financial losses for people and companies,” Nerotrot explained.
For customers Telia, fraudulent call protection is used automatically, and they do not pay anything for it.
How to make scammers pay instead of us?
Soon, the decision against fraudulent calls will be supplemented by an option that will force to pay the scammers themselves.
“In the near future, the function of the voice message will be added to the decision, which will allow us to force us to pay the scammers themselves: the automation developed by Telia will be responsible for calls. When answering a call with a voice message, the charge will immediately begin, that is, the fraudster will issue an invoice to his own operator of communication, ”explains NEVET.
If the client Telia will still call back to the suspicious number, before the connection, he will hear a report with a fraud warning that offers to interrupt the call. If this is not done, you will be connected to the number. Calculation of a fee for a call with such a warning begins after a warning message.
In order to better notify users about potential dangers, Telia tested various warning formulations in February. Selected as a result, the message says: “Attention! According to Telia, the number you set may be associated with fraud. We recommend interrupting the call. If you stay on the line, there will be a connection. ”
Telia continues to develop innovative solutions to offer its customers even safer, better protected digital systems. We advise you not to call back to foreign numbers from which you are not waiting for a call.
What are the so -called Wangiri calls (Vangiri)?
Vangiri calls are also known as second or missed calls that come from foreign numbers. The purpose of such calls is to intentionally create a missing call that prompts the subscriber to call back to an unknown foreign number, which often ends with an impressive score. One of the largest attacks like Wangiri occurred in Estonia in 2018, when many users received mass calls from Samoa numbers.
