The new Crimean Tatar spelling was approved in Ukraine
Work on developing a new spelling project lasted since 2023

The new Crimean Tatar spelling, created on the basis of Latin alphabet, has been approved in Ukraine. Thus, the transition of the Crimean Tatar language from Cyrillic to Latin officially ended.
Project of new spelling worked out from 2023, reported in the representation of the President of Ukraine to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
On April 4, 2025, the Cabinet supported the proposal of the State Service for Ethno -Policy and Freedom of Conscience and approved the use of a new spelling of the Crimean Tatar language.
The approved rules are recommended for application by all state bodies, including local administrations and military administrations, in particular, in the territory of the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

Crimean Tatar was transferred to Cyrillic during the Soviet Union. After Ukraine, Crimean Tatar specialists talked about the need to translate spelling into Latin, as it better takes into account the phonetic features of the language.
With the approval of the new spelling, this process is considered officially completed.
