The new celebration of the book culture – Diepresse.com
Independent bookstores open their doors at the Global Book Crawl. In that of Austria organizer Nicole List, people even stay.
The hopping from one bar to the next, from one drink to another, is probably known to many as a pub crawl – but that there is now a similar format with books is a premiere: From 22nd to 26th, appropriately around the world’s day of the world, the first global book crawl takes place.
A total of 30 Austrian independent bookstores, 24 of them in Vienna, take part. Stories are waiting instead of cocktails – and instead of bars, bookstores are visited. The idea behind this is to show the diversity of the local book scene, to get to know new book shops and also offer a program: readings, signs, workshops and even an overnight stay in a bookstore are planned. Not only the numerous events serve as an incentive for « book shopping », but also a collective pass: Book lovers receive a stamp for every visit -and those who have collected five of them will be rewarded with a book voucher for the last visited bookshop.
