The Narva Museum begins a cycle of lectures on the history of Narva


The history of Narva is dramatic, multi -layered and unique. The lecture cycle offered by the Narva Museum will help to form a clear and relevant idea of ​​the development of the city for centuries. The latest such reviews of the history of Narva were published more than 30 years ago, and many discoveries and changes remain unknown to the general public. This spring, the museum offers the opportunity to listen to lectures based on modern research and reliable sources. Lectures will be held in the hall of the Narva Hall and will be broadcast on the YouTube channel of the Narva Museum, the museum reports.

Why is it worth participating?

For the first time, the Narva Museum offers a comprehensive overview of the history of the city.
Lectures are free and accessible to everyone-you can come personally, look live or later on YouTube channel.
Lectures are conducted by a historian, inspector of the protection of monuments of antiquity, Madis Tuuder, whose knowledge and many years of experience help to reveal various aspects of the history of Narva based on proven sources.
After the lectures, a discussion will take place where participants will be able to ask questions and share their thoughts.
Lectures will take place both in Estonian and Russian.

The event is supported by Eesti Kultuurkapital and the city of Narva.

Lecture schedule (in Russian):

The first lecture will be held on the anniversary of the March bombardment of the city of 1944

  • March 6 at 18:00 – World War II (1939–1945, in the context of Narva – the direct influence of 1941–1944).
  • March 12 at 17:30 – the oldest period (the end of the last ice age – the beginning of the 13th century)
  • March 19 at 17:30 – Danish period and period of the Livonian Order (beginning of the XIII – mid -16th century)
  • March 26 at 17:30 – Livonian war, Swedish and Russian rule, Northern War (mid -XVI – beginning of the 18th century)
  • April 2 at 17:30 – Russian period (beginning of the XVIII – mid -XIX century)
  • April 9 at 17:30 – Russian period (second half of the XIX – beginning of the XX century)
  • April 16 at 17:30 – War of Independence, Republic of Estonia (1918–1940)
  • April 23 at 17:30 – Soviet period ((1940) 1944–1991)

All lectures are free, take place in the Narva Town Hall, Raekoja Plats 1.
