With a joke and self-irony, Freolich attaches to the cultural clichés and family disorders that she herself experienced as part of a German-Russian family.

Two years later, the continuation of « Travel with Russians » followed. In this book, Paula goes to the capital of Ukraine Kiev to reconcile with her husband Artyom – but finds that he has disappeared without a trace. This is followed by a trip that is funny as it is a topic of reflection, filled with strange meetings and many questions about identity and roots. Both in the debut novel and in this Freolich describes his own experience as a Russian wife’s former wife.

Deep family dramas with black humor
