The municipality is renewed: the elevator will be installed

Currently, the main entrance of Kaunas City Municipality has been closed, and a warning sign that it is possible to enter the building through the side door, which used to be opened in the case of people moving in wheelchairs.

Scaffolding is greeted with a black film. The hall doors are marked with lanes that announce that this place will also change.

« Our goal is to renovate the main lobby of the building and to install an elevator that will be adapted to everyone, so people with mobility disabilities. Sometimes we organize meetings and events to which we invite the public. It used to be difficult to climb the second or third floor.

The building built in the interwar period already has an elevator, but it does not meet modern needs. However, the old device will remain as it is a heritage -protected value. The new elevator will be located on a staircase right next to the main entrance.

« There will be a whole new elevator shaft, a spacious elevator for everyone. The old elevator will survive, but it counts for more than 100 years and no longer meets today’s requirements. Naturally, we have to look for ways to install a new one, » T. Metelionis said.

What other changes?

The director of the administration named Kauno diena what works would be done on the internal premises of the municipality.

By coordinating the project with heritage conservationists, the staircase will be renewed and the main entrance door will be restored. These doors are valuable, so it will be managed in accordance with heritage requirements, but there are some that will be changed.

« The big hall doors will be replaced by new ones and the entrance is restored, » the administration director said.

By city funds

T. Metelionis noted that all internal repairs of the building should last for four months. During that time, employees will have to suffer from the bypasses for the construction sounds and travel to the office.

Information is temporarily provided to residents in the office 105, as the usual location is currently hidden under the scaffold. « There are links everywhere, so everyone will find the way, » the administration head added.

The internal renovation of the municipal building is carried out solely by the funds of Kaunas city budget. They are planned to be about 945 thousand. euros.
