The motive: frustration and a desire to die itself

On Thursday, the Örebropolis presented the preliminary investigation completed after the school massacre at Campus Risbergska in Örebro. Eleven people, including the perpetrator, died and sex were seriously injured.

The police have focused on trying to find out the perpetrator’s motive.

– He wanted to take his life. He was deeply frustrated by his life in which he met many adversities, said Henrik Dahlström, commander -in -chief of the operation during the press conference.

Nothing has been found that indicates a political, xenophobic or radical motive for implementing the crime.

– However, we would like to emphasize that we have not found the perpetrator’s mobile or two hard drives that were missing from his computers. So we do not have all the facts, Henrik Dahlström continued, and at the same time emphasized that none of what could be controlled indicate a political motive.

According to the preliminary investigation Rickard Andersson came to the school by bus at 07.47 on the day the massacre was carried out. He locked himself at one of the school toilets. There were later found several of his belongings, including amphetamine, as well as things that can be linked to his weapons. Here he had also left the math book he had when he previously studied at school.

But planning itself started as early as the autumn of 2024, the police believe. Then Rickard Andersson picked up a guitar case at his parents’ home. However, he left the guitar and he used the guitar case to carry his three weapons when he started his journey towards school.

Why he just chose Campus Risbergska for his deed, there is no answer to – more than speculation.

Rickard Andersson had experienced a wide range of social adversities and he had had financial problems for a long time before he started planning his deed. He is described by the police as frustrated and mentally unstable. He also had repeated contacts with the care.

After living on supply support and rejecting more contributions, he began to study mathematics at Campus Risbergska to have an employment that could take him further in life or give him the right to new contributions. He failed with the studies and finished them on his own.

In the fall of 2024 He cleans away in the home, he sells his weapons cabinet and tries to sell his computers. The police have found information in the computer showing that he also sought information about weapons care. In January he also makes purchases of ammunition, knives and smoke bombs. Those smoke bombs were of a model that gave away massive, black smoke while he himself fired a long line of shots at school – the first at 12.31.

After that, he shoots ten people to death and six people suffer life -threatening injuries.

13.40 he is found deceased in a classroom. He had then shot himself to death. Alongside him, he had 195 cartridges – which makes the police suspect he intended to cause even greater harm.

After he was found, there was a testimony that there could be more perpetrators, which is why the rescue service was ordered to reverse. The search of the school continued until 17.40.

At the autopsy it could be noted that he was influenced by « among other things » amphetamine when he carried out the school massacre.

– Nothing indicates that Rickard Andersson used his weapons before the act. There is also no trace of having any genuine interest in hunting, Henrik Dahlström noted.

Patrick Ungsäter, regional police chief Bergslagen, noted during the press conference that the most important thing now is to learn from the terrible thing that happened to prevent this type of deed as far as possible.

« The whole society must be involved in this type of people living alone and isolated, » he said.

The preliminary investigation will be closed because the perpetrator is dead.
