– The most important measure to prevent falls is strength and balance training
April 29, Norway’s first national day for fall prevention will be organized. Fall is the most common type of accident among the elderly and often leads to reduced mobility, quality of life and impaired sense of security. Fall is often a cause of hospitalization and reason why one has to move from your own home.
Figures show that around 9,000 people are treated annually for hip fractures after falls in Norway. A hip fracture can have major consequences for the individual and those around. Hip fractures costs society around NOK 5 billion annually.
The most important measure to prevent falls is strength and balance training. The health authorities recommend training strength and balance 2-3 times a week. Did you know that here in the municipality we have 8 strong and steady groups as well as several other training groups led by a physiotherapist. Contact us if you think this may be for you or your relatives!
