Station: The Villa Kunterbunt
A yellow-pink wooden house where there was everything that had to appear strange when the book was published in 1945: lots of space, money and sweets in abundance. Without adults or rules, Pippi masters her everyday life. « I’m a child and that’s a home. So this is a children’s home here, » the redhead is convinced. So where there is such a home When the Swedish director Olle Hellbom staged the first film adaptation of Pippi Longstocking in 1969?
First of all, the director tried a newspaper advertisement that ended with the request: « The house, the horse, Tommy and the monkey can send in to the following address: North Art, Fack, Stockholm 1. » In the end, however, it was not the mail, but chance that Hellbom led to the Swedish island of Gotland. Gotland is the largest island of the Baltic Sea and is one of the sunniest places Sweden. In keeping with this, the Villa Kunterbunt has always been painted yellow. It was on a military military training area And served as an administrator. The film crew was allowed to use the villa as an outside backdrop, all interior shots were shot in a studio in Stockholm. However, the military had no objection that painters painted parts of the Rosa building, as well as other craftsmen towers, chimneys and wood veranda.
In 1970 the army wanted to leave the villa in need of renovation. However, since public resistance was encouraged, the army auctioned the house. At that time, the small business owner Einar Nyberg led a campsite near the military training area and bought the « Villa Villekulla », as it is called in Swedish. He hoped to market them as a tourist magnet. The house hiked on a sled two kilometers closer to the capital Visby and was extensively renovated. In retrospect, Nyberg’s plan has come up: The Villa Kunterbunt is now in the middle of the “Kneippbyn’s Summer and Wasserland” amusement park.

But Pippi leaves her traces not only in the « Villa Villekulla »: With her friends Tommy and Annika, she visits a fair in the book « Pippi Longstocking on tour » – what director Hellbom takes over in the film « Pippi Longstocking goes on board ». He was in close contact with Lindgren for both the series and the three films. So how could it be different than that the fair in the region is shot is inseparably connected to the Lindgren? Småland, a southeastern province in Sweden, is known for her picturesque nature. And in addition to forests and lakes, the port city of Västervik is also located here.
For the Pippi film scene, the hype was set up on the historic fair area there. Here Tommy, Annika and Pippi meet the strong Alfons. Does anyone dare to accept it with him? Of course the « strongest girl in the world ». When Pippi defeated Alfons, Tommy is amazed: « But you’re a child. » « Who says that children shouldn’t be super strong? », The redhead replies. The strength of the little girl, The already personalities like Michelle Obama Inspired in her childhood, it was probably from the life of the creator Lindgren himself. As a single parent, who decided to marry the child’s older father, the writer also opposed the conventions that were common at the time.
