The Ministry of Education tests 5,000 second -graders in mathematics and reading next year


A study of the skills of second -grade students in mathematics and reading plans to hold the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) in the next 2025/2026 school year. The initiative is recorded in a project of The new National Focus Skills Programpublished for a one -month public consultation before its adoption by the Council of Ministers.

The program includes four modules. They cover both study in 2nd grade, as well as creating and working in class with tasks such as international comparative studies PISA -for 15-year-olds, or students in 9th grade, and Pirlsto help fourth -graders in the preparation for participation in Pirls 2025. Second -grade study

It is planned to study the reading and mathematics among the children who will be second -graders next year, be representative and cover 5,000 students. All responsibility for his organization has been assigned to Institute of EducationS It will determine the sample of schools in which it will be held, create a bank of tasks (a total of 50 in number), perform their assessment and prepare the tests for the children.

Along with the survey, it includes the development of school -minded school programs in which schools can join projects. Financing for 50 institutions is provided and for the creation of 84 reading programs with understanding. Four training seminars are also provided among 150 teachers to apply the relevant curricula.

PISA and PIRLS

The program envisages the construction and testing of PISA tasks, which will work 40,000 nine -graders this school year. Equally as fourth -graders will be exercised with tasks like Pirls. Both will work on an electronic platform. The National Program of the Ministry of Education and Science is set to create and expertly evaluate 50 PIRLS Tasks.

Financial literacy

How personal finances are managed will teach children in kindergartens through competitions, quizzes, webinars, laboratories, financial camps and financial theaters. Their goal will be to create financial literacy in children and to give them confidence in making decisions related to personal finances, the MES explains.

For their development and involvement in these initiatives, educational institutions will apply for projects that can cover more than one garden. The MES aims to provide 25 kindergartens to provide resources and to conduct financial literacy training. This module also includes schools – 75 must have taken initiatives in the same field.

Budget

The total budget of the national program is BGN 410 thousand. Most of them (200 thousand) are scheduled for the module, which includes both second-grade testing and the creation and exercise in the electronic environment of PISA and PIRLS international studies. For the conduct of the study in the 2nd grade, BGN 90 thousand was set. The amount must secure the cost of determining a sample, creating a bank of tasks, expert evaluation of tasks, preparing tests for verification of reading and mathematics skills, materials and consumables and for statistical processing and analyzing the results.

State and municipal kindergartens will be able to apply for funding projects under the activities set out in the various modules of the program. It is permissible for private partners to be private, but not to receive state funding.

The project proposals will evaluate the regional education departments of the Ministry of Education and Science. The ranked funding will be announced by August 8, 2025 on the MES website. After the period of objection from the other, the Minister will approve the final list by 20 August 2025 at the latest.

All activities under the national program must be completed by the end of the upcoming 2025/2026 school year.
