The Ministry of Agriculture in the preparation of a new national vision for agriculture and food

In the last 20 years, Slovenian agriculture has had almost one billion euros in damage, most of them due to drought. Climate change and disorders of global supplied chains must adapt faster. The Ministry of Agriculture will prepare professional bases and starting points for a new national vision for agriculture and food, the minister announced on the sidelines of the draft vision of the European Commission for Agriculture and Food Mateja Čalušić.

The Resolution on the National Program on Strategic orientations of the Development of Slovenian Agriculture and Food, which was adopted in 2020, is too general for the needs of today. A different approach that will be more comprehensive and systemic is at the consultation The future of agriculture and food Due to the new challenges, she announced Čalušić.

The new vision of the development of Slovenian agriculture and the transformation of the agricultural system will determine how to move towards greater nutritional sovereignty, to address climate challenges, to promote the technological development of agriculture and to the transition to agriculture, which will be economically effective, embedded in strong food supply chains, but also responsible to natural sources and climate.

About the draft EU visions for agriculture and food by 2040which was published in February, the Minister said that the key question is whether the vision of harmonized requirements of the agricultural sector will be in the more stable and encouraging conditions for agriculture and the requirements of the wider society related to the environment, climate and the accessibility of healthy food. The vision will have a major impact on the planning of national agricultural policy measures for the program period 2028-2034.
