The Minister of Justice not called to an open meeting
It is not possible to call Thorbjörg Sigríður Gunnlaugsdóttir, Minister of Justice, at an open meeting of the Parliamentary Constitutional and Supervisory Committee on data leaks from a special prosecutor.
The committee met on the matter in the parliamentary workshop today, but Vilhjálmur Árnason, chairman of the committee and MP for the Independence Party, and María Rut Kristinsdóttir, vice -chairman of the committee and the Rally MP, discussed the matter with a journalist after the meeting.
« We discussed these issues and how they can come to the committee and we are mainly focusing on how the citizen can trust the rights to be carried out in the implementation of the judicial system, » says Vilhjálmur.
Important to have peace
The State Prosecutor has entrusted the police in the South of Iceland with investigating alleged violations relating to the extensive data theft from the Special Prosecutor’s systems over a decade ago.
The police committee has also taken up the matter and must be considered likely to be discussed in Parliament today.
« We are not going to investigate some issues ourselves. We are just monitoring the implementation of the law and regulations, » says Vilhjálmur.
« It is so important that those who work in the judicial system today have peace.
Worked on the matter at the next meetings
Vilhjálmur says that the committee is now gathering information on the matter and is expected to work on the matter at the committee’s meetings on Wednesday and Friday.
He says that the next steps are, among other things, to get the Minister of Justice and others who can help the committee to get an overview of the matter to inform the committee in the state of affairs.
Are you going to invite the Minister of Justice to an open meeting?
« Not an open meeting, not to start with all the way, » says Vihjálmur.

Watch less in the rear -view mirror
Maria Ruth says that the members of the committee have all agreed on the next steps and that problems will be done.
« It was a very good debate in the committee and we all agreed to work hard and look a little ahead and less in the rear -view mirror, » says Maria Ruth.
One of the things the committee intends to investigate is « whether the situation today is not just in good shape, » Vilhjálmur said.
Much water has flowed to the sea since the alleged data theft was, but the committee wants to make sure that in the implementation of the judicial system today, civil rights are guaranteed.
