The Minister of Education has requested the opening of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Burgas State University

The opening of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical at the Burgas State University « Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov » demanded the Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev. To this end, he submitted a draft decision of the Council of Ministers at the request of the Rector of the University Prof. Dr. Hristo Bozov after a decision of the Academic Council of the Higher School of January 30 and after a positive assessment by the National Agency for Assessment and Accreditation (NEA) since February.

« According to the methodology of the National Higher Education Card at the moment, the opening of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Burgas State University » Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov, in which pharmacy training is held, is eligible for the opening of a new faculty in this region. Pharmacists will be prepared in the faculty for the needs of the Southeast and Southern Central Region, given the strong deficit of such staff, « Minister Valchev argued.

Now pharmacists are training the four medical universities in Bulgaria – in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Pleven, as well as the University of Sofia.

The Burgas State University currently includes in its structure five faculties: in technical sciences, in natural sciences, in public health, in public health and health care and the Faculty of Medicine, as well as departments in linguistic and preparatory training and for the qualification and professional development of pedagogical specialists, research institute. It is envisaged that his Faculty of Pharmacy will consist of 5 departments.

The project for the established 5 -storey building of the faculty, located on 13,000 square meters of built -up area and including laboratories, pharmacy, simulation center and – in a separate wing – library, was presented last May by the university management.

The Ministry of Health has supported the request for the opening of the faculty and the increase in the number of students in the specialty « in view of the provision of the population and access to pharmaceutical services ». The Municipal Council in Burgas, the Regional Health Inspectorate in Burgas, the Regional Directorate of Education in Burgas, the University Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment (UMBAL) – Burgas, the Complex Oncology Center – Burgas, the English Language High School « Geo Milev » is also expressed by written support. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Burgas and the Regional Pharmaceutical College in Burgas of the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Union, Valchev said in his report.

The last word in favor or against the opening of the faculty will have the National Assembly.
