The Minister also emphasized that in the future, similar representations of the EM could be established in other regions of Latvia.

Asked if the management of the EM could ever work permanently from the Jelgava Representative Office, Valainis said that « at first, for the work here a few times a week ».

The Minister of Economics also noted that entrepreneurs are showing great interest in the representation of the EM in Jelgava and that there are various meetings planned until the autumn.

On Friday, about 30 people worked from the new representation of the EM in Jelgava, including the managers of the companies and the EM employees. There were also meetings with entrepreneurs.

« Jelgava is the economic center of Zemgale, as well as geographical proximity to Riga makes this place attractive to start such a project, » Valainis said.

The Minister of Economics emphasized that a recent event with President Edgar Rinkēvičs was organized an event to evaluate what to do to raise the country’s competitiveness. Interviews with entrepreneurs where one of the issues was about the availability of public administration to entrepreneurs.

According to Valainis, the big entrepreneurs rated the availability with eight points, but among small and medium -sized entrepreneurs the score was lower, so it is necessary to think about the ways in which public administration may be closer to entrepreneurs in the regions.

It is planned that various events will be held in Jelgava, as well as other ministers and ambassadors of different countries.

It has already been reported that the representation of the MoE in Jelgava is located in the Jelgava Business Incubator, Peldu Street 7, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia.

Valainis previously told Latvian Television that there are more than 20 seats in Latvia where such offices could be set up.

The MoE explained that the aim of the establishment of the representation is to promote the economic growth of the regions by promoting business development and attracting investment. The representation will provide the opportunity to work closer in cooperation with local entrepreneurs and citizens, allowing more active communication and more effective issues.
