There is no rather place from Ohrid and the Macedonian sanctuary over the Saints – the Church of St. Sophia for celebrating and paying tribute to the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, to those who did not learn of unity in faith, to those thanks to whose work we were worthy of our own book, Stefan, in his address to the attendees at the solemn academy on the occasion of the Day of the Slavic Enlighteners.

– The holy brothers Cyril and Methodius have created an act of extremely important both in historical and geographical connectors, a work that remains alive and effective and that we believe will remain until the end of the centuries. Macedonians, as a people and as a church, should be particularly grateful to the Holy Kilil and Methodius that the language spoken in Thessaloniki was the language of their sermon, and that our language has become and has remained the Sem of Language for numerous peoples – said the head of the MOC.

He added that even after so much distance from their missionary work, the message and way of action are instructive for these today, no less restless and no less challenging times.

The rector of the University « Ss. Cyril and Methodius », prof. Dr. Biljana Angelova, who emphasized that Cyril and Methodius, with the creation of the Glagolitic, gave the Slavic peoples not only a tool of literacy, but also the opportunity to hear and understand God’s word in their mother tongue.

– For Macedonia, the work of the Holy Brothers has a special weight – they are a symbol of spiritual light, of cultural independence and the centuries -old struggle for preserving our language, letter and identity. Through their mission, the Macedonian soil has become a bridge between the East and the West, between faith and science, between the old and the new one, they are the foundations of our literacy – said Professor Angelova.

The Rectorika noted that the memory of Saints Cyril and Methodius does not only mean bowing to the past, but an obligation to preserve the language, culture and spirit of freedom, and added that in the spirit of the mission of the brothers Cyril and Methodius in Moravia, UKIM, the first state and state -owned university, were born.

The Academy was also preceded by a thematic exhibition of hitherto unpublished manuscripts and old -fashioned books from the 13th, 14th and 16th centuries, as well as the promotion of the Trojan Dictionary by Gjorgjija Puleski, which celebrates 150 years since the first edition, as well as the work « On the Macedonian Works » by Krste Petkov.
