The majority do this with the glasses when they get out of the dishwasher
Do you have the habit of placing your glasses on your head in the closet? Then it might be time to change your routines.
A new trend on Tiktok has focused on how the classic storage method can actually shorten your glass' lifetime – and now the theory is backed by experts.
Many people think it is best to turn glass on their heads to keep them clean and free of dust. But according to a video that has taken tiktok by storm, it is a widespread misunderstanding that can in fact lead to more broken glasses than necessary.
When a glass is placed with the opening down, the whole weight rests on the edge – the part of the glass that is often most delicate.
According to Kaye Wagner, expert from « Home Steady, » some glasses are designed with such a fragile edge that they simply cannot carry the weight of the glass itself.
The result? Increased risk of cracking or shattering, even without being touched.
How to extend your Glass' lifetime
If you would like to avoid a trip to the supermarket for new glasses a little too often, then the solution is quite simple: Keep your glass standing with the bottom down. This applies not only to ordinary drinking glasses, but also to the thinner and more elegant variants such as champagne and wine glasses.
But it doesn't stop there. Incorrect cleaning can also slide unnecessarily on the glasses. Here are some simple tips:
-
Avoid the dishwasher: The high temperatures and powerful water jets can be too hard at thin glasses.
-
Wash in your hand: Use a soft sponge, a little detergent and lukewarm water.
-
Drop for stripes and spots: Dip the newly washed glass in a mixture of cold water and three tablespoons of vinegar, then wipe them with a clean, soft cloth. It removes any lime residue and makes polishing superfluous.
