The majority did not go to the law
Jóhann Birkir Helgason, the leader of the Independence Party in Ísafjarðarbær, says that the newly fallen majority of the I-list in Ísafjarðarbær did not comply with the law and that disputes have probably caused his fall.
Thorbjörn Halldór Jóhannesson, mayor of the I-list, confirmed in a conversation with mbl.is earlier today that he had stopped supporting one person’s majority in the list. The I-list got five people elected in municipal elections in 2022, the Independence Party and the Progressive Party each got two people elected.
Should show the data
Jóhann says that the majority of the I-list did not want to deliver or show data regarding the town’s sale of the Eyri nursing home.
« I have been requesting data on the sale of the nursing home Eyri, but the majority has pointed out that this is in the sales process and that they want to wait to complete certain things. They should not deliver the data but they must show them according to administrative law, » says Jóhann in a conversation with mbl.is.
Jóhann says that Thorbjörn, who has stopped supporting the majority, has also requested access to this data and therefore disputes have arisen within the majority.
Four options in the position
Gylfi Ólafsson, the leader of the I-list and the chairman of the town council, says in a conversation with mbl.is earlier today that he is likely to think that the majority will work mostly unchanged until the election, despite the fact that the old majority no longer enjoys the support of the majority of the elected townships.
Neither Jóhann nor Kristján Þór Kristjánsson, the leader of the Progressive Party in Ísafjarðarbær, claims to have discussed this possibility with Gylfa. Jóhann, however, states that the collaboration with the I-list has been good and that his views have been taken into account.
« We have not discussed this with Gylfa, this is probably some feeling he has.
Kristján, however, says he does not want to give up what possibilities he think is most likely until he has met with his backbone, but he intends to do so later today.
