The Luga will not be a « blossom exhibition »

Five people brave about the Däichhalen Earth in Ettelbrück. Minister of Agriculture Martine Hansen (CSV), Ettelbrück’s mayor Bob Steichen (LSAP), the general coordinator of the Luxembourg Urban Garden (Luga), Ann Muller, the first lay judge and former mayor of Ettelbrückm Jean-Paul Schaaf (CSV) and Pascal Nicolay (CSV), second lay judge, grabbed the shovel for the official groundbreaking ceremony of the Luga. Luga not only transforms the image of the capital for six months, but also the « Baurestad », as Mayor Bob Steichen proudly underlines. In addition to the five spades, there are also some construction workers who ensure that in just under 40 days the place in front of the Däichhal is already.

While the variety of urban ecosystems is particularly in the foreground in the capital, the importance of Luxembourg agriculture is brought closer to visitors during the six months. On a 4.8-kilometer circular route, which begins at the train station in Ettelbrück, visitors are kidnapped into the world of Luxembourg agriculture under the Luga motto « Make invisible things ».

Cooking courses, cows and vertical farming

Almost 40 days before the official opening, Luga General coordinator, Ann Muller says: « It steams at all corners and corner ». There is still a lot to do in the capital, but also in Ettelbrück until the official opening on May 7th. A smooth journey by train was actually planned for visitors. But as Sacha Oberweis, general coordinator of the technical services in Ettelbrück, notes: « Unfortunately, it can go out to Ettelbréck to gate grousse Chantier. But behind the construction site, the circular route begins, on which innovative cultivation methods such as vertical farming, aquaponics or hydroponics are presented.

Ettelbrück becomes agriculture for six months. The Luga in Ettelbrück is divided into 23 themed weeks. Among other things, visitors receive insights into milk production, food safety, agriculture in the face of climate change or the importance of “organic” in Luxembourg agriculture. A fixed date is the Foire Agricole Ettelbruck 2025. In addition to the themed weeks, cooking courses, seminars, photo exhibitions and offers are offered. In collaboration with the Simon brewery, even a separate Luga beer was created, which is served during the events.

A pavilion on the Däichwissen becomes a visitor center. Various workshops are offered here, lectures and exhibitions are shown. A total of over 1,000 partners will make Luga possible at the end. « It will be much more than just a ‘blossom exhibition’, » says Ann Muller. A look at the program shows more than 1,000 events on 162 days in the capital and Nordstad. The opening ceremony in Ettelbrück will take place on May 11th.
