The LTG Group called for the crossings to behave responsibly
Although technical safety measures are being implemented and permanent preventive campaigns are being implemented in railway crossings, the number of violations is still being observed. Residents risks daily by crossing rails both on vehicles and on foot, despite traffic light signals or barriers.
Specialists emphasize that the number of violations does not necessarily mean worsening societal habits. Some of them are recorded due to increasingly used automatic monitoring systems, which allow for more accurate and more frequent identification of offenders.
In addition to the technical modernization, LTG also conducts information campaigns, including « Safe Rows » and a new safety heroine – a snail. It reminds that the speed of a fast -moving train looks like snails compared to comparison.

According to V. Grašis, these figures do not necessarily indicate the deterioration of public behavior.
« The growth of the number of violations is primarily due to the expanded technical capabilities. LTG actively implements CCTV systems to the crossings, and the recorded violations are automatically transmitted to the police.

Despite the intensity of technical and preventive measures, statistically, the decline in violations is not yet recorded. However, as officials point out, in the long term, education and consistent control are expected to help change behavioral habits.
Police along with LTG are conducting various preventive measures: information provided to residents about the potential tragic consequences of violations, attending schools where children and young people are trained or lectured on safe behavior at the railway. Administrative penalties are also subject to violations.

There are several violations on daily crossings
In Lithuania, an average of about 2000 is recorded per year, or on average 5 rides per railway crossing rules. In addition to imposing fines, violations of the rules deprive them of the right to drive for several months, but can also take away the most expensive one has a person – life or injured health.
Rail safety in the European Union has improved significantly over the last decade. Although the number of large -scale accidents and the number of people killed in them has a significant decline, the statistics of the accident remain threatening. In all EU countries, including Lithuania, most disasters and deaths in the railways are due to pedestrians or drivers negligence in unauthorized locations and crossings.
According to the latest Eurostat, 2023 The EU occurred in 1,567 large rail accidents during which 841 people were killed and 569 were seriously injured. According to LTG, last year in Lithuania there were 14 traffic accidents on the railway, when trains collided with vehicles and pedestrians. 6 people were killed and 1 were injured.

Tips for residents crossing the railway crossing
The security of railway crossings depends on the responsibility of each road users. In order to avoid disasters, the following basic principles must be followed:
1. Follow the Road Traffic Rules
It is particularly important to remember the provisions of Chapter XIX « Traffic through the Railway Carration ». This section defines how to deal with the crossing, what signals are mandatory and when traffic is prohibited.
2. Follow the three basic security principles
Attentiveness. Discipline. Safety. Observe the environment, signals, train movement. Don’t violate the rules even if you seem to be guessing. Always make sure you only cross the crossing when it is safe to do so.
3. Observe all signals
Follow road signs, road markings, position of barriers, signals of traffic lights and railway crossings.

4. Make sure the train is not repeated
Do not drive without being convinced that the train is not repeating to the crossing. For example, after passing one train, the other can drive.
5. Observe both directions
Don’t only get to one side – trains can come on both sides, and in some cases even at the same time.

6. Don’t trust intuition
Do not trust intuition – the speed of the train is quite often assessed wrong. The train braking and stopping path is very long. It is important to know that the train stopping and stopping path is very long – even if the driver notices an obstacle, it may not be possible to stop on time.
