At the end of the 1960s, the instrumental group Zodiac was formed at the Department of Electronic Musical Instruments at the Latvian J. Vitola State Conservatoire, led by Jānis Lusens (born April 7, 1959). The history of the band began in 1979, when they recorded the first album, Disco Alliance, which officially saw the light of day in 1980.
« It was a student experiment using a synthesizer, » smiled Janis Lusen.
At the same time, the band still recorded music for a documentary about the astronauts « Star Palette ». The members of the group then visited the stars town, where they met cosmonauts.

20 million entries!
Space-based Zodiac music, which was greatly influenced by Space, Vangelis, Kraftwerk, Pink Floyd, Jean-Michel Andre Jarre, Tangerine Dreams, and immediately « shook » the monotonous Soviet world of music.
« For the Soviet nomenclature, it was a good idea that the USSR could create prestigious music, » Janis Lussen opened, who was 21 years old.
Zodiac immediately shot to the tops of the USSR popularity and competed with the permissible sale of Western music. In addition, band music has gained great popularity in Finland, Austria and even … Japan!
Until August 26, 1983, an unprecedented number of Disco Alliance – 5,848 980 was sold, according to the audio company Melody. And another 1,703,800 « Music in the Universe » (the second album of the band is called « Music in the Universe »).
A total of over 20 million Disco Alliance album records have been sold!

Zodiac has become Zodiaks
Zodiac caught fire with green light and offered them a tour of the USSR at that time. But Zodiac leader Janis Lussen … refused because he did not want to leave at the Conservatoire, otherwise he would have served in the Soviet Army.
And the band’s name is Russian and English, the Latvian word « zodiacs » is replaced by the cover of the album, which is still present.
Later, the band broke up, but after Latvia regained its independence, Zodiaks returned, in 2015 the band released the album « Pacific Time », which features the arranges of modern two compositions of the two albums of two albums, as well as two new compositions.
And from time to time, Zodiac still holds its « cosmic » concerts, but still with great popularity.
