PKK has been fighting against Turkey since the 80s.
Ankara. The imprisoned leader of the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) Abdullah Öcalan called on Thursday to dissolve this organization and the composition of weapons.
PKK, which has been fighting against the 80s of the last century Turkey According to Öcalan, the Kurds should convene the descent for the independence and autonomy of the Kurds and decide on its dissolution.
It results from Öcalan's letter published by the Turkish Prokurd Party Dem.
« Curve downhill and decide. All groups have to fold weapons and PKK must be dissolved, » said Öcalan's statement read by Dem deputies who visited him in prison on Imrali's island at Istanbul, where Öcalan is held in isolation.
Dismissal of opposition mayors
Öcalan's challenge is part of the effort to settle a conflict with the Turkish state, which considers PKK as a terrorist organization and leads a police and military campaign against it at home and in the neighboring countries. According to Öcalan, it is time to « develop the language of the time of peace and democratic society ».
The leader of the Turkish nationalist party of the National Action (MHP) Devlet Bahçeli last year called on Öcalana to compose weapons, which he believes could open space for the concessions of the Turkish state against the Kurds or the release of Öcalan himself. Bahçeli's call was subsequently supported by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Since then, however, the Turkish authorities have continued to suppress real or supposed PKK activities. The pro -government authorities have removed several opposition mayors because of suspicion of relations with PKK, but the opposition officials refuse, and perceive it as an attempt to get rid of uncomfortable politicians.
Years of fighting for independence
Abdullah Öcalan stood at the end of the 1970s at the birth of PKK. In 1999 he was arrested and later sentenced to the death penalty for treason. The court later changed his sentence to life imprisonment, when Turkey abolished the death penalty because of efforts to join the EU.
For several years, the regime in prison denied meetings with lawyers and family. He was allowed to visit his relatives only last October after more than four years. The lawmakers from the DEM Party could visit him three times in recent months.
PKK was established at the end of the 1970s, since the mid -1980s the Kurds were led for independence and later for autonomy. She has declared a ceasefire several times in its history. In the fighting with the Turkish state, 40,000 people died. For the most part, they were members of this party and its sympathizers, writes Reuters.
