The law on churches and parishes passed the second reading in Riigikogu
Riigikogu adopted in the second reading a new edition of the Law on Churches and Parks, which, among other things, should create legal grounds for the termination of the activities of the Estonian Orthodox Church (former Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate), if it does not tear the canonical ties with the Moscow Patriarchate, writes Err.
Since the President of Estonia did not proclaim the new version of the Law on Churches and Parties adopted in April, Riigikogu, in accordance with the comments of the President, excluded from the current edition a ban on being guided by a person who has a significant impact in a foreign state, since this situation can be too widely interpreted. In addition, the term provided to religious associations to bring their activities in line with the requirements of the law was extended from two to six months.
In the final edition adopted by the parliament in the second reading, the church, the arrival, unification of parishes and the monastery, it is forbidden to be related to the spiritual center, the leading body, the head of the religious association or the spiritual leader, which pose a threat to security, the constitutional or social system of Estonia. Both legal relations are prohibited on the basis of the charter or other document, on the basis of which the activities of the church or monastery are carried out, as well as economic relations with such persons.
