The Latvian Contemporary Jewelry Art Exhibition Touch-sensitive / Day has been opened in Vilnius

In the spring of 2024 Touch-sensitive took place at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Riga, earning considerable responsiveness to visitors, experts and media, crowned by the Latvian Public Media Annual Award in Culture Kilograms of culture 2024 (in the category Visual arts).

The exhibition Touch-sensitive Offers a truly extensive panorama of contemporary Latvian jewelry, combining major artists. In addition, one of the main accents of the project is the relationship between modern decorations and their wearers. It is a cohesive exposition that has not only objects but also video and sound. It is clear that the creators of the exhibition have invested a lot of work – it is no wonder that it got award and so good feedback in Latvia. We hope that in Lithuania it will also raise great interest. ”

Exhibition Touch-sensitive (Touch-Sensitive) The idea is based on the stories of people, their chosen decorations and their authors. The exhibition features the original works of 23 Latvian artists, which show the wide range of handwriting of different generations and masters, emphasizing the development and succession of the industry. Visitors are encouraged to evaluate the diversity of modern means of expression, to learn about the creative experience of each designer, the specifics of jewelry and the synergy of different materials.

The artists have made jewelery doctors, diplomats, philologists, painters, teachers, students, themselves, relatives, colleagues. Therefore, in addition to the author’s work, the portraits created by photographer Martins Cīrulis, which reflects the visual dialogue of the jewelry and their wearers, as an integral part of the overall image. Meanwhile, the sound installation composed by sound director Peter Pasa, which synthesizes the audio elements of the jewelry, the fragments of electronic music and the jewelery wearers’ thoughts on the importance of jewelry in everyday life, gives the additional dimension to what is seen in the exhibition. Valuable comments are made to visitors a specially prepared catalog made in cooperation with Arctic Paper Baltic states.

Inese Baranovska, Head of the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, says about cooperation with Lithuanian colleagues: “I would really like such exhibition exchange projects between the Baltic States more often. I know that in Lithuania, thanks to the International Biennial of Jewel MetallophoneWhat has been organized since 2011 is a good audience and interest in jewelry art. ”
