On March 28, the Krenholm Library began work in full, in the restored premises of the House of Narva, the House of Narva. Despite the fact that the room was three times less than the previous one, the library space was made comfortable.

As Tatyana Krivolap, Deputy Director of the Narva Central Library, told the Narva Newspaper, the former location of her branch in the Ida-Virumaic training center had its advantages: convenient conditions and proximity to the target audience-students and teachers. However, in connection with changes in the field of education, the training center needed premises for its needs, and the library had to look for a new place.

-Baters in the building of the House of Peoples on Creenholmi, 25, we are very pleased -this is the best of the possible options, -says Krivolap. – The library is in walking distance from residential buildings, near shops, school, there is a bus stop, convenient parking. The library is located in a house where active, clumsy, creative people live, many of them are our readers or will become our readers. Repair was made, the premises turned out to be light and sunny despite the fact that it is a basement. We tried to organize a comfortable space in the library, there is also a lifting platform for people with special needs, an office for remote work, a kitchen for employees.

Fund optimization
The crossing affected the size of the fund – the library premises became three times less, which means that some of the books had to be written off. Tatyana Krivolap notes that this process is natural: books wear out, lose their relevance, and old editions can also become an environment of habitat of book pests. However, the written books find a second life: some go to the “Traveler Library” at the Narvsky Station, part replenishes the Fund of the Narva Central Library.

The formation of the fund is a bilateral process. At the same time, the library was replenished with new publications. Now in the Krenholm « Book House » there are a lot of new literature in Estonian, textbooks for its study, developing games for children, board games, as well as books in English. “We have not forgotten about female detectives, love novels and science fiction,” the deputy director smiles.

Waiting for residents of Krengolm, but they will be glad to all citizens

Despite several crossings, the library still has many devoted readers. The oldest of those who used it in 2024 is 96 years old, and the youngest is only a year old. And, it turns out, not only the Narvites, but also the inhabitants of Narva-Yesuu, Toil, Sallamyae, Tartu, Maard and Rakvere use the Krenholm library.

The mayor of Narva Katri Raik: “Our city library holds about 1000 events a year, and this is not counting training programs. Thank you so much for it.  » Photo: Natalia Starostina

The library plans to attract new visitors, primarily by its books. A unique collection of children’s literature is collected here, and almost all subscription publications are available for home reading. In addition, in the children’s room you can play developing and desktop books. A cozy cabinet for remote work offers comfortable conditions for working at a computer. And, of course, the library plans to shows cartoons and the organization of various events.
-We will visit students of the Krenholm school, children from kindergartens who are in this area. I hope that our readers will be students and teachers of the art school and visitors to the House of Peoples. We are sure that many Narvites want to come to the updated library, ”adds Krivolap. – We will meet everyone, show, tell and write down!

The history of the library

IN 1949 A year at the Krenholm Manufactory in the Joal building, 20 opened a small trade union library. Her book fund then fit in just one closet.
IN 1957 The year, with the opening of the Vasily Gerasimov Palace of Culture, the library received a new spacious room: the subscription was located on the ground floor, and the reading room on the second.
In March 1992 The library moved to the former children’s club A. Kreisberg at 18 Joal’s address. However, the building was not adapted for the library, which is why readers did not have free access to all books. As a result, many publications remained unclaimed, and the staff of employees decreased from 11 to 5 people.
In December 1994 For years, the library has passed the municipality and received a new name – the Narva Krenholm Library.
In May 2007 The library moved to the building of the Narva Center for Professional Education (45 Creenholmi), where almost 110 thousand books were located on an area of 1000 m².
May 1 2008 The library has lost the status of an independent institution and became a branch of the Narva Central Library, preserving the name of the Krengolm library.
June 3 2024 For years, the library moved to the house of peoples (Creenholmi, 25). While there was a repair of its premises, the issuing item worked. The library began in full work on March 28 2025 years.
