BRATISLAVA. Foreign students in Nitra They don’t feel safe. There are groups of youth in the city, which are both verbally and physically attacking them.

Constantine the Philosopher University (UKF) also officially pointed out their students. In the warning e-mail from April 11 They called on the attacks to report immediately to the police.

« There have been various attacks in Nitra for a long time, » says student Simona, whose editorial office knows the full name, but does not disclose it for security reasons. « He frustrates me when someone is afraid to walk down the street and speak in their native language. Now it’s directed towards the Ukrainians, but we don’t have a guarantee that it will be someone else later. »

Almost twenty years ago, in the summer of 2006, in Nitra attacked a student Hedviga Malinová, when she spoke Hungarian on the way to the phone.

It was approximately six o’clock in the evening, 31 March. A group of three friends Nazar, Vlad and Bohdan went from the dormitory to eat to a nearby shopping center, there is also a hypermarket, university students go there to buy food there.

They sat in the foodcourt on the first floor and waited for food. They noticed that three boys and one girl look at them, the game began to weigh and scold them. One of them also put in Nazari.

« They called us Ukrainian guess, blunt Ukrainians and assholes, » says Nazar. « They said why we were looking at them and urging us to go out to the street and talk there. »

When the students finished, they went back to the boarding school. The aggressive bunch chased them, did not stop shouting at the curses aimed at their nationality, while sucking them.

« We haven’t responded to it, » Nazar continues. « I knew we were adult and probably not, and engaging in the battle was a bad idea. We also realize that I was a stranger here and try to be here as hard as possible and not to be involved in unpleasant situations. »

The attacks did not stop the next day 1 April. When Nazar and Vlad went to the hypermarket in the shopping center, four youngsters began to bother them. Two of them Nazar recognized from the attack the day before. They hid from them in the hypermarket, but when they came out of it, surrounded them and started the punching again.

They tried not to perceive them and look calmly, but three of them ran them up at the clothing shop and fell away from their backs.

« Then they started beating us with his fists and kicking us, » Nazar describes the attack. He and his friend, in his words, avoided his fists, not returned, Nazar Kopanec took the knee and Vlad to his chin. They both ran to the foodcourt. « People did not respond to the attacks in any way, they left us so only when we reached a foodcourt where there were more people. »

Friends ordered food, but a bunch of attackers did not stop watching them. They waited for them to eat. In the meantime, seven were collected there. The youngsters were dressed according to Nazar’s description in sports sets.

« I understood that they are waiting for us to go out, » says Nazar. He called his friends to escort them to the boarding school. Five came.

« Although there were seven we were still pushed into Vlad and they were constantly scolding us, » the college student continues. « When they went out on us on the street, some of them put on the hoods. After these events, we are now afraid to go out, especially to the promenade. »

Nazar described the situation in detail in the letter to the university management. He also contacted the police and filed a criminal complaint.

« About a week after the attack, we were found by a shopping center security and told us that they were sorry about what happened to us and that it would not be repeated, » adds Nazar.

The security service also provided him and his friends with contacts.

OC Promenada for SME confirmed that the incident of April 1 knows. The police provide « maximum » cooperation.

« The security service of our shopping center always responds in time and flexibly to any situations in its competences and valid legislation, and thanks to this, similar incidents in our country are rare, » says Center Director Petra Pupák Waldnerová.

They don’t feel safe

« UKF is informed about two recent physical attacks on its students, » says Alexandra Oborčoková from the Rector’s office for SME. « These took place in public places outside the academic land. »

Oborčoková also mentions that both attacks are already investigating the police. The Regional Police Directorate in Nitra did not answer the questions of the daily until the deadline.

« The situation is uncomfortable here, I stop feeling safe here, » said Alina. « I feel that no one knows about it here that what’s going on here. »
