The JOVD wants to quickly close the adventure with ‘unreliable’ PVV, it’s time for a middle rate
After the fall of the cabinet, one thing is clear to Mauk Bresser: with Wilders rule, it is no longer an option. In the run-up to the VVD congress on 14 June, the chairman of the youth organization Freedom and Democracy (JOVD, affiliated with the VVD) will tell Why the party should focus on the real problems – economy, climate and safety – instead of asylum. Collaboration with GroenLinks-PvdA is also negotiable in terms of, as long as the party is committed to preconditions that guarantee the safety of the country.
What did you think of the attitude of party leader Dilan Yesilgöz in last Wednesday’s debate?
« The story was indecisive. No decisiveness, while this was the time to give direction. This cabinet was born on the asylum file and fallen because the PVV did not deliver: no capable ministers, no cooperation. Then you are not a reliable partner. Wilders walked away when it became difficult, and Dilan refused to name it. But she did not dare to make a choice and this country needs choices. «
Yet she pointed out that you cannot just exclude two million PVV voters.
« That’s why we said: give them a chance. But Wilders has now run out of the problems. He was unable to deliver. You have to do something with the worries of those people about asylum, but no longer with the PVV. »
Yesilgöz continues to call asylum one of the biggest problems in the Netherlands. Is that right?
« Asylum is important, but other issues are even more urgent at the moment. The world is on fire. There is war in Europe, we have to make choices to guarantee our safety and put our budget in order-taking into account the new NATO standard. If we do nothing about the economy or climate, the asylum inflow will only increase.
« The idea that you solve the asylum problem by closing the boundaries is not correct. You must ensure that the entire system works. If we want to stay a large economic player, we must now make choices. Files, nitrogen and energy no longer tolerate the real urgency. »
If you are talking about international safety and climate, you are more aligned with GroenLinks-PvdA. Does the VVD have to rule with them?
“We do not exclude GroenLinks-Pvda. If the party wants to commit to safety in their election program-for example by legally establishing that 3.5 to 5 percent of GDP goes to Defense-then we can rule with GroenLinks-Pvda. This also includes a clear commitment to investing in the economy of the future, without being burdened with that-with the sake of Zee-and with the Zee-and with the Zee-and with the Zee-and the Zee-and with the Zee-and the Zee- CDA. ”
How do you explain that to the anti-timmermans flank of the VVD?
« I think that in the end that group also realizes that something is really going on in the world. We can tackle the big problems with middle parties, and we also solve the file that that right flank is worried about: asylum. Calling easy to send the army on it, borders closed ‘does not work simply, because we have no longer dressed that capacity.” ”” «
Why would the VVD now move to the middle, while there is still a majority of chamber to get asylum legislation through it?
« The VVD must claim the asylum portfolio and ensure that a skilled VVD member guides Faber’s asylum laws through the room before the elections. Use the majority that is still there. If Wilders is not special, everyone knows who blocks. »
Yesilgöz showed in recent days that she wants to achieve as much as possible with this right -wing cabinet. Is she still the right leader to let the VVD sail a middle rate?
« What we have learned from recent years is that endless leaders are not in the mood. Dilan was the right candidate to tell a liberal story, and she is still. But to be honest, I find the cargo behind it – the people, how the party is going – more interesting. »
