Košice. Two hostels are to grow on the green meadow on Medická Street in Košice near university and high school dormitories. The project originally envisaged a capacity of 159 accommodation units and 116 parking spaces, but underwent a fundamental change.
In January 2025, the building office allowed to build 78 apartments and apartments, the number of parking areas remains the same. It is an attractive location, you can get to the Old Town from there in 15 minutes.

« It is literally chaotic here today. On Považská Street in the traffic peak, there are constipation, parking is almost impossible to find. It simply cannot work, » says Andrea Straková Fedorková.
Although he believes that new residents will use public transport or other forms of mobility, the reality is different.
« Everyone wants to park as close to the apartment as possible. The city and the city district have to act, I hope that together they will also provide quality resident parking in this location, as well as proper marking of parking spaces, » the complainant said.
They had no idea about the change
The Mayor of the Košice-West district Marcel Vrchota (SaS) responds that in February 2020 they sent a favorable opinion within the construction procedure for the submitted project documentation for the construction of the boarding school for students.
« Thus, two buildings for short -term accommodation. According to the project documentation, it was supposed to be a dormitory with one -room (88) and two -room (71) cells. The project was designed 78 outdoor parking spaces and 38 covered parking spaces, » said Vrchota.
He stressed that in November 2022 the city issued a building permit for a construction called Domigns for short -term accommodation on Medická Street.
The city district learned that the purpose of the construction and the solution of static transport, ie parking, has changed from the initiative of the resident.
« The essentials for the further development of the situation are the steps of the Košice building office. We sent a letter to the Office for information to notify us if the building permit was altered. »
According to the mayor, the construction of the Považská-Medická intersection is also part of the construction, which should improve the traffic situation in this node.
