The LETA agency has already announced that, due to the absence of Janson, the annual Ombudsman’s report was not addressed at the Saeima on Thursday, raising questions about the reasons. On Thursday, the Bureau sent an official letter to the competent authorities « requesting information to decide on the way forward ». Such a decision has been made because the Ombudsman has not repeatedly arrived in the Saeima to provide a report within the specified time.

On Friday, Speaker of the Saeima Daiga Mieriņa (ZZS) said after a meeting with Ombudsman Ineta Piļāne to the media that Janson, given his regular absence, should assess his ability to continue his ability to continue his duties.

There are separate responsibilities, which are also set out in the Rules of Procedure of the Saeima, which can only be carried out by the Ombudsman, said Mieriņa, pointing out that the presentation of the Ombudsman’s report in the Saeima is one of them. As long as the Ombudsman is « on the disease sheet », the report will not be considered, the politician added.

Janson, on the other hand, told LETA that he was in the hospital and about his future position when he was discharged.

He pointed out that in the hospital because of cardiological and neurological problems associated with high blood pressure and arrhythmia, it has been on Thursday. However, on Wednesday, May 21, he had a sick leave and it was clear that, due to health problems, he would not be able to attend the Saeima on Thursday, which Janson’s deputy sent a letter to Parliament’s Bureau.

Janson admitted that this was not the first time he was not coming to the report – the previous time was in 2023. However, he did not comment on whether it had any connection to the excessive alcohol consumption of other people. « I won’t comment on this, it would be a stupid speculation to say something about it, » the Ombudsman said.

However, he did not deny that he had consumed alcohol in his life, possibly too much, and « it leaves some consistency ». At the same time, he stressed that there were no situations in which he would have trembled his hands or had any other physical manifestations.
