– At one o'clock a strange sound woke me up. As it turned out later, they were roof tiles bursting from fire – tells « Fakt » the owner of the house, Rafał Moritz (47 years old).
The man ran out of the house. – On the roof I saw a rabbit fire, tried to extinguish with a garden hose, but it did nothing. We managed to take only ID card and medicine from home and I ran away with my wife as we stood – he recalls.
The first fire trucks arrived 40 minutes after the application
The phone was immediately made to the emergency number 112 and the dispatcher sent firefighters from Olsztyn and Biskupiec. When they arrived, it was too late to the rescue of a 100-year-old house. Its inhabitants stood helplessly and watched the achievements of their lives burning. – The wife called a friend of the fireman from the nearby village of Ruma, where there is a thriving TSO unit – adds Mr. Rafał. – They were ready to leave, but they were banned due to regionalization and later problems with paying firefighters for firefighting action – he says. It turned out that between Leszno and the village of Ruma is the border of the Olsztyn and Szczycieński poviats. Bridesmaids from OSP Ruma were not allowed to go beyond their activities.
The dispatcher forbade the trip to the fire closest to the TSO unit located
– We have four kilometers to Leszno and we could be there after 10 minutes, but we cannot make such a decision ourselves – says the president of OSP Ruma Tomasz Witczak. – We have Szczytno. We get information on phones and the siren. It takes us three minutes to get to the fire station and we are ready to leave. That night the mermaid did not overstate, but Mrs. Julita called. She asked us to come. I asked the duty officer and he says that he has no note from number 112 and he cannot let us go outside our commune – explains the fireman. – We have all fire -fighting equipment, except for the ladder. It burned between the soffit and the tiles and we would at least suppress the fire. The TSO is equipped with firefighting lances, which we stick into the roof and extinguish the fire in the bud. We could save this house – he believes.
– On the basis of a report that I analyzed, I can say that there were no irregularities in action. Units from outside the system can operate in their commune. This is how the system works. Perhaps the OSP Ruma unit was treated as a desert – informs the young brig. Grzegorz Różański, spokesman for KW PSP in Olsztyn.
