The group of Bega companies continues to expand the natural gas drilling for Romgaz, through Craiova well drilling.
The largest producer and main supplier of natural gas in Romania, SNGN Romgaz, whose main shareholder is the Romanian state
Through the Ministry of Energy, he announced at the end of May that he would continue to invest in the drilling of new deep wells and in the extension of the infrastructure to take over the volumes of hydrocarbons extracted from the future wells, and these projects will involve a total investment of over 1.3 billion lei from their own sources.
The major investment project Caragele Deep, located on the territory of Buzău and Brăila counties, is the largest land deposit discovered so far by Romgaz, estimated at 30 billion cubic meters, which means Romania’s consumption for about three years.
On June 6, 2025, he started the drilling of the 54 Damianca probe, part of the onshore strategic project from Caragele, a work performed by Craiova well drilling, a member of the Bega group, with a 450 tonne drilling facility, which meets the standards of API, ATAX and EC. The top drive of the installation is made in Europe by a renowned company and fulfills all the conditions required in the drilling activity, having a load of 500 tons and a power of 1100 hp.
The probe will have a depth of 5,100 meters, being one of the deepest drilling in the last two decades in Romania.
The Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, visited Monday, June 16, 2025, the location, together with the leadership of Romgaz: Răzvan Popescu -general director, Aristotle Jude -Deputy General Director and Dumitru Chisăliță, the president of the board of directors.
The event was attended by Marius and Emil Cristescu, the shareholders of Drij SA Craiova.
« It is a great joy, a privilege, to see at the Caragele probe 54 Damianca, another modern probe. It is a company that I am very proud of, if last year Romania has become the number one in the European Union from the perspective of gas production, this is due to Romgaz and the team of professionals, which has a Romanian company. Important, promising, which will go up to 5 100 meters, so the deep carages and we are convinced that having the help of the good God, we find here an important gas deposit. Energy.
The Caragele structure is located on the territory of Buzău and Brăila counties, in the perimeter RG06 North-East Muntenia, in which Romgaz carries out oil operations based on the exploration-development-exploitation agreement approved by GD no. 23/2000, being its only holder. The perimeter Caragele is in production with 15 probes and has a significant contribution to the extra -extra cumulative of Romgaz. The structure is constantly developing as the proclaim wells prove the commercial character.
The commitment to discover new volumes of hydrocarbons is a national priority, and the drilling of the 54 Damianca probe in the deep area of the Caragele structure is part of this objective, Romgaz representatives said.
“At present, we also activate here, on the location of the 54 Damianca well, the beneficiary of the probe being SNGN Romgaz SA, and the general contractor of the work is one of the most important contractors on the drilling market in Romania, namely Craiova drilling.
The drilling of the probe 54 Damianca started on June 6, 2025 and has a drilling period of about 167 days until the final depth of 5 100 meters, followed by the 88 -day production samples.
With the completion of the drilling of the probe 54 Damianca, we estimate the increase of the production of Romanian natural gas, from the Caragele structure.
The Caragele project is the most important discovery of hydrocarbons (natural gas, condensed and crude oil) in the company’s exploration portfolio and concentrates most of the onshore investments that SNGN Romgaz SA performs in the exploration activity ”, explained Ionuț Cosmin Huzuneanu, Director of the Drilling Directorate of SNGN Romgaz SA.
