The hockey hero selects the World Cup final for the elite race
The Ice Hockey World Cup for men was played for the first time in 1920. On Sunday evening in Avicii Arena on Söder in Stockholm, final number 88 is played.
Ulf Dahlén made 74 international matches for Tre Kronor. But the former hockey star, who during 14 seasons in the NHL was recorded for 301 goals and 354 goals, will not see the World Cup final. It is the classic elite race at Solvalla that applies.
Dahlén, who is now back in the birthplace of Östersund, co -owns one of the race’s favorites. The star is named Borups Victory and is trained and runs by Bergsåker’s newly hung star Daniel Wäjersten, 35.
– I am happy to experience this with our ownership group, says Ulf Dahlén.
He says he has been Med and part -owned nearly 20 horses over the years.
– I started hanging out on the Östersundstravet at the beginning of my teens, I was so young that I had to send others to the Toto lid when I was going to put a game, says Dahlén.
He laughs.
Now he has gone to the trotting party on the capital in Bromma.
– We will have our annual owner meeting. This is probably 15 years now that we have had the meeting during the Elite race, says Dahlén.
He co-owns Borup’s Victory together with former Tre Kronor buddy and Toronto hero Mats Sundin, national team doctor Lennart Hovelius, Max Mitteregger, Peter Thelin and Kalle Thelin.
– I am happy to experience this and to also be involved in a horse in this ownership group, says Ulf Dahlén.
– We have so much fun together, we also meet on birthdays and then we play the V75 every week.
Borups Victory is trained by The new Swedish star coach Daniel Wäjersten. The seven -year -old became the older horse of the year during the Hästgalan in March. Immediately after the prize, the 35-year-old coach received a pink ticket by the elite race manager Anders Malmrot. The fact is that the second in the Elite race 2024 was a giant in Sweden last year. He won the Seinäjoki Race, Guldbjörken, Kymi Grand Prix and Hugo Åberg’s Memorial.
When 2024 made the financial statements, Wäjersten’s eye stone had trotted home almost SEK 7 million. Now the world’s most honorable sprinter race is waiting again.
– It’s a big, the whole stable dreams of winning the Elite race, says Ulf Dahlén.
Are you nervous?
– Yes, it is tingling in my stomach, it was different when I played hockey. Then I could be involved in influencing the outcome. I can’t now.
Coach Daniel Wäjersten is pleased for the big race which premiered in 1952.
– I run with the same arrangement as I usually do. There is no reason to change. The most important job did the horse in January and February during winter training.
How do you look at your chance in the Elite race?
– The horse comes from good performance, but much should go in the right direction in a big race.
The Swedish hope was drawn to track six.
Tell us about Borup’s Victor’s strength?
– He has few weaknesses, is fast and strong and can walk in the back if needed, says Wäjersten.
How do you upload for this weekend’s party?
– I eat well and sleep a lot.
What is on the menu?
– Home cooking. I jump french fries and the bearnaise sauce.
Wäjersten, who trains 100 Horses, in recent years have taken the step up to the absolute top of Sweden’s trotting trainers.
The first chapter of the story was written when Daniel hung with his father Ulf, who was an amateur trainer, to the stable in Fjärås just outside Kungsbacka in Halland. After elementary school, Wäjersten moved to Travgymnasiet in Wången. Life’s compass was set to become a coach.
He worked with professional coach Fredrik B Larsson in Erikssund just outside Sigtuna before he ended up with Svante Båth at the Solum farm in Kovland outside Sundsvall. In 2018, Svante Båth moved his business to Upplands Väsby and thus became a neighbor with Stig H Johansson.
The 28-year-old talent hesitated Never. He bought his employer’s farm and became a professional. It became a real lucky draw.
Last year, Borup’s Victory finished second in the Elite race behind French Horsy Dream.
Now he does not stand for his toughest challenge so far.
The elite race over 1,609 meters.
– It will be an exciting weekend, says co -owner Ulf Dahlén.
