« The highest score in nine years »: these are the safest SUVs for families with children
It is impossible for Euro NCAP to test every new car that comes on the market. That is why a selection is made of the most popular and most interesting models every year, it sounds at Euro NCAP in Leuven. For an assessment, a maximum of four cars are needed that bodywork companies will have some work on afterwards. The assessment is expressed in stars, five is the highest. One star means very unsafe.
Seven SUVs were selected for the latest test. From the Audi A6 to the Polestar 3, which Swedish is only rolling off the band in China. But also a few less well -known Chinese cars were tested for the safety of adult passengers, of children, the consequences of a collision for vulnerable road users and safety assistance in the vehicle.

All models received the maximum of five stars as the final assessment, two achieved the highest score in terms of children on board: the Polestar 3 (from 65,000 euros) may beat the chest as the winner.
In both the frontal collision and the lateral collision, the Polestar 3 offers good protection for both six and ten-year-old dummies. The car also clearly shows the status of the frontal airbag when a child seat is placed in the front of the passenger seat in the front. However, the electric SUV from China lost points in the child protection test, because it ‘Child Presence Detection‘-System did not meet the strict requirements of Euro NCAP in the field of warning and intervention. The car also lost points in the tests for adult protection.
The Hongqi E-HS9 Is another new electric SUV from China. Although he also achieved a five -star rating of Euro NCAP, a small crack was found in the director’s airbag during inspections after the test. The score for the level of the head protection in both frontal collisions was therefore assessed negatively. Hongqi has investigated the cause of the crack and says that the quality control in the car assembly factory and at the supplier of the airbags has been improved.

The Jaecoo 7 PHEV Finally, points lost after the frontal collision test, because the rear curtain airbag got stuck in the upholstery of the C-pillar and was not activated properly. Research by Jaecoo showed that one of the clips that held the airbag in place was not installed correctly during production. The company stated that this has improved the quality of the production line.
